The foods I will teach you to eat balance several key chemical systems in your body that turn on your body’s internal fat burning switch. The secret to healthy and sustainable weight loss is hidden right inside the cells of our body. The secret to that “weight loss code” is all about the nature of calories and their impact on the function of our hormones.
We all know that calories have something to do with gaining weight but the relationship between what we eat and how we store calories is often poorly understood. The body can decide if it will burn calories for heat, store as fat or dispose as excess. Quite a bit depends on the number of calories we consume but also how we take them in. This is what is highly overlooked. Some calories are simply destined to be stored while some are more likely to be burned.
Here is what you need to know about this process: High fat and protein consumption promote your body’s desire to store and hold onto calories, unless you exercise vigorously, or you create a great need for body heat to be produced (such as swimming in very cold temperatures). Then your body will decide to unstore and use stored fat as energy to raise your body temperature. This is called ketosis. However, if overall fat and protein consumption are reduced and more fruits and vegetables are added to the diet, your body will not store as many calories as fat.
A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2007 reported that obese women who avoided high-fat foods and focused on eating more fruits and vegetables lost 20% more weight than those who only avoided high-fat foods.
So, what does this say you should be adding to your diet?
You want to increase plant foods and whole, unprocessed foods that are rich in nutrients and naturally lower in fat, salt, and sugar. Making these dietary changes also promote better functioning of the hormonal balance in the body.
Many of the foods we eat confuse the delicate chemistry of the body and disrupt hormonal activity. Insulin, Estrogen, Cortisol and Leptin are the main 4 hormones that will promote weight gain if they get out of balance. If imbalanced, these need to be balanced by HGH (Human Growth Hormone), Testosterone and Progesterone, which can assist in weight loss.
