As of October 2026, Amazon’s KDP has further capped how many new books you can set up and publish each week. Under the new KDP title limits, in each book format (ebook, paperback, hardcover), you can create up to two new titles and submit up to two new titles for publication. Both limits reset every Sunday at midnight UTC.
What Are the KDP Title Limits?
KDP has two weekly title limits, set out on its Create a Book help page under “New title creation and submission limits.” The creation limit allows “Up to 2 titles per book format each week.” The submission limit allows “Up to 2 new titles per book format each week, counted the first time you submit a title for publication.”
So in one week you can bring out up to two new ebooks, two new paperbacks, and two new hardcovers. In practice, for most authors, this will mean two new books in one or more formats. And the limits are likely to bite only for authors who were planning to release a series or set of three or more books at the same time.
Both limits reset at midnight at the start of Sunday, UTC. In the US that falls on Saturday afternoon or evening; the FAQ below gives exact times.
KDP clarifies that “updates to titles you’ve already submitted do not count against the weekly submission limit.”
How Do You Plan a Series Launch Around KDP Title Limits?
Under KDP’s limit of two new titles per format each week, a series has to be created and submitted two books at a time. A six-book series in ebook and paperback therefore takes three weeks: books 1 and 2 in the first week, 3 and 4 in the second, and 5 and 6 in the third, with each book’s ebook and paperback in the same week.
The creation limit applies as well as the submission limit, so you cannot create all six ebooks, or all six paperbacks, in your KDP account in one week and submit them later. Create two books per format each week, either in the week you publish them or earlier.
The submission limit stopped one author on the KDP Community forum in October 2026. The author had spent a couple of months preparing the paperbacks of a 15-book series to publish on one day (the ebooks were already on sale) and saw the limit message when trying to publish. A Top Contributor on the thread (a badge the forum gives to frequent volunteer helpers, not KDP staff) suggested two books a week for seven weeks and the last book in the eighth. The Top Contributor also saw an advantage in the wait: once the first books are out, the author can order a printed copy and catch any problem before it is repeated across the whole series. A proof copy, a printed copy you order to check the book before it goes on sale, does the same job before anything is published.
Two books in the first week is also what a series page needs. A series page is the page on Amazon that lists every book in a series in order. As our post on setting up a KDP series page explains, once you have set up the series in KDP, Amazon shows the page when at least two books in it are on sale.
Why Did KDP Introduce Title Limits?
KDP’s own reason for its 2026 title limits, given in its announcement on the KDP Community site, is “to help maintain a positive publishing experience for all authors.” The announcement lowered the creation limit to two titles per format each week from September 21, 2026. On October 5, 2026, KDP added the submission limit as an update at the top of the same announcement. According to the trade site Publishing Perspectives, reporting the UK trade magazine The Bookseller, the earlier limit was ten titles a week, and Amazon declined to say whether AI-generated content was behind the change.
KDP has lowered its limit on new titles before. In September 2023 it said in a forum post, quoted by the trade magazine Publishers Weekly, that it was lowering the limit “to help protect against abuse,” although it had “not seen a spike in our publishing numbers.” Earlier that month, the same report notes, KDP had started asking authors to declare AI-generated content. Its content guidelines still require this for AI-generated text, images, and translations.
Our opinion, which Amazon has not confirmed, is that the 2026 limits are aimed at accounts that publish large numbers of AI-written books, the kind of business promoted in social media videos about making money from AI-written books. A limit of two new titles a week costs an author with a series a few weeks of scheduling. It costs an account publishing dozens of AI-written books a week most of its output.
KDP has changed these limits twice in two weeks, so check the current figures on its Create a Book page before you schedule a release of several books.
KDP’s weekly title limits only affect you when you want to create or submit more than two new books in one format in the same week. For a series, create and submit two books per format each week, use the first books to check a printed copy, and confirm the current limits on KDP’s help page before you commit to dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a limit on how many books you can publish on KDP per day?
KDP’s current limits on new books are weekly, not daily. As of October 2026, you can create up to two new titles, and submit up to two new titles for publication, in each book format each week, as set out on KDP’s Create a Book help page.
Do an ebook and a paperback of the same book count as one title?
KDP counts an ebook and a paperback of the same book as two titles, one in each format. The ebook uses one of the week’s two ebook titles and the paperback uses one of the week’s two paperback titles; a hardcover uses one of the week’s two hardcover titles. One new book in all three formats therefore fits within a single week, as long as you have not already created or submitted other new titles in those formats that week.
Does a book saved as a draft on KDP count toward the weekly limits?
A book you have saved on KDP without publishing it has already been created, so it counts toward that week’s creation limit. It counts toward the submission limit later, in the week you first submit it for publication; KDP’s Create a Book help page says the submission count “includes titles previously saved as drafts.”
Do changes to a book I have already submitted count toward KDP’s weekly limits?
Changes to a book you have already submitted do not count against KDP’s weekly submission limit, so correcting a manuscript, replacing a cover, or editing a description does not use any of the week’s allowance. A new edition is different, because it is created as a new title.
What happens if I reach one of KDP’s weekly limits?
If you reach either of KDP’s weekly title limits, KDP’s announcement on title creation limits says you can try again after the limits reset at midnight UTC at the start of Sunday.
When do KDP’s weekly limits reset in US and UK time?
KDP’s weekly title limits reset at midnight UTC at the start of each Sunday (KDP writes it as Sunday 12:00 a.m. UTC). That is Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time or 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time or 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, and Sunday at 1:00 a.m. British Summer Time or midnight Greenwich Mean Time.
